I just got a new computer with Windows 7, I tried getting it to work the way http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/?id=9842 says to, but that doesn't work.

It tells me some dll file isn't installed on the computer.

I want to get the Mushclient for Aardwolf updated but it tells me 'Error opening file for writing' when I try to do it like I used to.

It won't install if I try the 'Install using recommended settings either.'

How can I get the Aardwolf version updated to 4.43?

Which DLL?

I suggest installing into a folder you can write to, if you got the message 'Error opening file for writing'. For example put the entire MUSHclient folder into Documents, or My Documents, or whatever it is called.

Ok, I uninstalled it, made a My Programs folder on desktop, reinstalled it there and it updated. Guess everything will have to go in there from now on :P

I didn't write down the name of the Dll though :(

Thank you for the help!

You have other options for legacy applications such as this on the newer Windows operating systems. You can set your MUSHclient shortcut to run the application as administrator, which will prompt you for permission each time you run it (unless you disable UAC). You can change the "Start In" directory for the shortcut to something you can write to, such as a folder in My Documents or on a flash drive, and then keep your world files, scripts, and plugins there instead.

Which one you choose, depends on how you've setup your account on your PC and how you configure your world and scripts within MUSHclient. I personally designed all my scripts with the latter option in mind from the very start, and it's worked well for myself and everyone who's using my scripts on every version of Windows.
