I've been using MUSHclient for almost 5 years now, and have never had any problems. This morning, I tried to start it up, as I do every morning, and BAM, it comes up for like five seconds, and then disappears. I tried everything I thought of to fix it, and then I came here to look for help. I found a topic by someone who described a similar situation, but I tried all the remedies in there, and I still can't get it to work.
As far as I can tell, it's because someone downloaded an Earthlink Update this morning, before I got online.
I'm not very good with computers, so I'm probably missing something, but if someone could help, I'd really appreciate it.
What version are you using?
Version 3.43 onwards have a test that is designed to reveal problems with the "silently not starting" issue. It appears to be caused by some Windows resource that cannot be found, and MUSHclient just exits. However with that version onwards it displays what the problem might be.
It may the the info bar, in version 3.46 onwards MUSHclient continues loading if it cannot create the info bar.
Well, I was using an older version from about a year ago.
I figured I'd try uninstalling and downloading then new version, but that didn't work either, I now have 3.45, and it still won't work.

Try version 3.50 - the one you got is one version before the one that allows for the info bar to not load.
Failing that, uninstall MUSHclient, which will remove the registry entries, and re-install.
The other thing to investigate is what is happening. You say it works "for like five seconds". Does it open a world file in this time? Try starting it without opening any worlds in that case. Do you use scripting? Maybe a script is crashing it. What is the last thing you see before it goes away?
Well, it's not even five seconds really, more like three. And it just pops up and closes again, and it doesn't load a world. And I don't use scripting. I don't do anything more complicated than a trigger to keep me logged into a MUD.
Just tried the 3.50 version, still comes up for like three seconds and then terminates. :(
To be honest, with something that works for 5 years, and then stops working after someone installs something to your PC, the problem is with your PC and not MUSHclient.
No-one else has reported this problem, excepting the rare cases where the Info Bar won't load, which now has its own error message.
I suspect that the thing you installed has corrupted TCP/IP somehow. MUSHclient doesn't do a huge amount until you open a world, so if it crashes immediately it sounds like something is drastically wrong, for example with the Registry.
Have you uninstalled (MUSHclient) totally and re-installed? If that doesn't help I don't know what to do. I suggest an operating system fixup or re-install. Or, remove the other thing you just installed, if possible.
Well, I appreciate the suggestions. I guess I'll just have to try reinstalling windows.
Thanks for your help.
