Linkdead issue?

Well here's the problem. Attacking a (helpless) linkdead player is illegal. But when (I tested this out, or had someone test it for me) a user one dialup goes linkdead, then are not shown with the linkdead flag, and are not even marked linkdead.

The test player d/c his dialup at 8:45pm.
At 8:48pm, he reconnected and this happened:
Quote:
Drin has lost his link.
Drin has reconnected, kicking off old link.

So I'm wondering, is it impossible for the MUD to detect its connection?

The MUD only detects "link-deadedness" when the connection is severed. The problem is that it doesn't always detect that it was severed - a connection can time out but still appear alive. This is often the case with dialup connections.

I don't think there is much of a way around this. When the player reconnected, the MUD doesn't "detect" that the player lost their link - rather, the MUD assumes that that must be why they're reconnecting and the other player is still online.

I figured as much. I'll just have to leave the players responsible for their connection.
