| Hey. Man, you guys must get tired of my incessent questioning. At least I promise not to ask the same ones twice. I have a brand new idea for a mud, and I'm fleshing it out. Seems like I flitter from project to project, but I'm learning as I go along.
In this new mud there was a device that was made, and then destroyed, littering a few planets with splinters, which can be combined into shards. These shards are valuable becuase they are limited, and they are needed to make the best weapons, armor, or get favors from the gods. One thing I want to implement is a command which would give a percentage of how many each of the 3 sides had.
I am also interested in how difficult it would be to make it so that only certain races could communicate on channels. There would be the OOC channel, but all others would be limited to people on the same side, also tells.
As I am just fleshing this out, I'm not married to my concept. Feel free to give me suggestions, or tell me if yout hink it'd be trouble out of proportion. |

| Actually some of this is quite easy with DoT and some of it is just outright difficult. The restricted access channels are going to be easy since DoT already has something similar in place that could be copied and modified to suit your needs. The idea with the shards can be quite difficult depending upon how limited you intend their existances to be. If you want them to be truly unique, its going to be extremely difficult since you'll need a way to track objs in pfiles (not easy) and will require heavy coding. If you only intend for them to be of epic difficulty to obtain but not unique or limited existances (at least not coded as unique or limited existances) then it should be fairly easy to manage with heavy mprogs and/or spec_functions. As for restricting tells, I'd advise against it since you limit a potential roleplay tool and it will ocassionally be necessary to use tells to communicate with the enemy discreetly. |

| Meerly extremely difficult to get instead of unique will do. I plan to have mobprogs for building weapons. You give the mob the ingredients and he makes the weapon. To make the best weapons, you have to have a shard, which is made up of multiple splinters, which are also combined, maybe using mix, maybe using another mobprog.
As for the channels, which portion of the code is that in? |

| For the channels grep for um.... do_mtalk I believe is the mythos restricted channel that currently exists. Alternately you could look at do_ntalk for an idea of how to only have a certain group of ppl allowed to use a channel, do_immtalk would work as well. Alternately, just grep for "talk" and it should return all of the existant channels. |

| I have to say: Meerclar, you have been unfailingly helpfull and understanding even with my multudinous questions. I wish there were more people in the mudding community like you...willing to give actual answers to the best of your ability instead of sarcasm and thinly veiled conceit. I applaud your helfulness.

| Just don't let that get to being public knowledge and I'll continue to help as long as the questions are reasonably intelligent :) |
