Howzabout a full backtrace and not just where it stopped?

The obvious questions to ask are:
- are you sure you have all directories set up properly
- are you sure you followed all instructions etc.

That explains how to use gdb.

I had SMAUG running under OpenBSD. The problem might be a missing directory when it tries to make/open the wizlist. Make sure all directories are there.
