Anyone know what the Immortal command 'warn' does? It seems to relate to ban, but the helpfile doesn't say what.

Well I'm at work right now, so I'm not sure. This is the helpfile:
Quote:
Syntax: warn class <field>
Syntax: warn race <field>
Syntax: warn site <field>
Field is either #(ban_number) or the site/class/race.
Example: warn class #1

I glanced over it. Apparently if a ban is set as 'warn', it simply warns the immortals when that site connects. You can set warnings on a class or race logging in from a site, or anybody from that site.

Hmm, well it doesn't seem to work.
[ 8] YES (115) Tue Aug 16 13:06:21 2005 Zeno -1 mudconnector.com

(The YES means it has a warn on it)

Connecting from the TMC java client says I'm banned. Okay good. But there was no warn on the MUD.

Hmm, unless this uses the warn channel...

Well, unless I misunderstood the system, it's not supposed to actually ban you, just log a warning message when you log on.

But then again, the ban system has never worked quite right, so it wouldn't surprise me if this were simply broken...

Well, in order to have a warn, you need to attach it to a ban...

Yeah, tell me about it. I just tried testing this on stock SmaugFUSS, and ban its self crashed.

If you apply the fixes posted by remcon at the SmaugFUSS forums (www.smaugfuss.org) then warn has to be attached to an existing ban which will then use the warn channel to tell any immortals online when someone from a banned site/race/class tries to log on (of course, they're banned so they won't actually be able to logon, but now you'll be notified that they tried. Of course, if you're using the command in an unpatched smaugfuss, it will crash your mud when you try to set the ban, and if you're using the ban command in an unpatched smaug 1.4a you'll just end up with a buggy ban...

[EDIT - 11 March 2008] - The Smaug FUSS site is now http://www.smaugmuds.org/

I thought you were supposed to get a notification of new connections rejected due to bans already?

Hmmm... my unmodified SmaugFUSS 1.6 crashes with a ban, but my modified SmaugFUSS 1.4 (my MUD) does not, and the ban works fine.
