I've been told it is possible to disguise, change or hide your IP address but have been unable to locate a way, anyone able to suggest one or even a few?

Thanks,
Mark

The server IP address? Or your own IP when playing a MUD

You are probably referring to IP spoofing, but I'm not terribly interested in saying more about it, because most of the time it is used for somewhat unsavory purposes...

We can perhaps mention proxy servers, as that is supported by MUSHclient.

Not sure what proxy or IP spoofing is, I'm trying to find out if there are limited ways or anyone can just fake their IP as a random number for connecting issues.

No, not with that purpose. It is possible to put a "spoofed packet" on the Internet, but that is primarily done as part of a denial-of-service attack.

You can't connect to a MUD with a spoofed address, because the messages from the MUD need to go back to a genuine PC.

However if you have a "bad player" they might find a proxy server, which effectively is a middleman, and come into the MUD from that.

It is like sending a letter to your aunt, with instructions to forward it on to someone, to disguise where the letter is really being posted from.
