| I've been told it is possible to disguise, change or hide your IP address but have been unable to locate a way, anyone able to suggest one or even a few?

| Not sure what proxy or IP spoofing is, I'm trying to find out if there are limited ways or anyone can just fake their IP as a random number for connecting issues.

| No, not with that purpose. It is possible to put a "spoofed packet" on the Internet, but that is primarily done as part of a denial-of-service attack.
You can't connect to a MUD with a spoofed address, because the messages from the MUD need to go back to a genuine PC.
However if you have a "bad player" they might find a proxy server, which effectively is a middleman, and come into the MUD from that.
It is like sending a letter to your aunt, with instructions to forward it on to someone, to disguise where the letter is really being posted from. |
