i downloaded both the files from this website for rom2.4
I know windows very well but i dont know unix or C.
The addon Rom.exe didnt give OLC like stated.
I dont have a C compiler but plan on it soon.
Am i doing something wrong or is the file incorrect.

That's funny.

The add-on seems to add mud progs, not OLC.

It appears it is mislabeled.

Sorry, I'll have to reword the web page. You are the first person to comment on that. :)

There are a couple of other things you could do. One is to download SMAUG from this site. It has OLC, mud progs, and colour.

The other is to use my offline Area Editor to edit your area files. This is at Area Editor.

ok, i have AreaEdit but for some reason it won't load
all of the stock areas (belongs in different forum)
Midgaard is one of them. I've only played rom muds, it was the type i liked most. I'll take a look at smaug.
Also, there is a typo in the source zip saying OLC.
The source zip isnt listed on the HTML page; it is in
the html directory though. It has mobprogs in it, not OLC.
I guess there isnt really much i can do with a mud without
knowing C and a compiler. Here is where the "fun"
begins.

The Area Editor will load all of the stock areas, but because the unregistered version does not load the (supplied) romconfig.dat file, a couple of them will not load until you have registered it.

This was not deliberate, but some of its default settings are not correct for those areas.

You can see from the areas that it will load that it works OK, and once registered, it will load (and save again) all of the stock areas (and your own areas of course).

As for ROM/SMAUG - they are both derivates of Diku MUDs, however effectively SMAUG is ROM + OLC + mob progs + colour + weather, so it is easier to use SMAUG rather than try to add all those features to ROM.

Meanwhile you can use the Area Editor to convert your ROM area files to SMAUG ones.
